Collaborative Intelligence Week in Review - 04Aug2023
Best business article(s) I read this week…
I had extra time to read this week, so there is more in this section than normal…
The latest McKinsey Global Survey on the current state of AI, highlighting the breakout of generative AI.
The Impact of AI on Business Strategy and Decision-Making Processes
This isn’t the greatest article, but it provides a reasonably good overview of current thinking on the topic and some useful references.
Measuring Human Performance When Colleagues Are Robots
An interesting article that updates some research published in 2021 about the impact of robots on performance management systems. This quote will give you a good idea of the theme: “because robots are, by their very nature, much more consistent and transparent than humans, human activity becomes easier to observe if robots join the team.”
Focus on Skills to Grow Your Workforce
This isn’t specifically about Collaborative Intelligence (CI), but it is a related topic. I’ve had many conversations with current and prospective clients about their need to re-skill and up-skill their business and technical workers so that they can get the most out of CI.
Best technical article(s) I read this week…
A Method for Generating Dynamic Responsible AI Guidelines for Collaborative Action
Researchers from Nokia Bell Labs UK propose a four-step method for dynamically generating guidelines that can be used to improve the development of responsible AI systems. As they write in their introduction, “While AI holds the potential to benefit humanity, concerns regarding biases and the lack of transparency and accountability hinder its ability to unlock human capabilities on a large scale.”Fact-Checking of AI-Generated Reports
The authors describe a process for using generative AI “hallucinations” to train an “examiner” that reviews generative AI outputs and removes false sentences. The article applies this method to clinical workflows (interpretation of diagnostic images), but I think it can be generalized.
Other item(s) of note…
Generative AI in the Enterprise
This report from TECHnalysis Research presents the results of a study of how US-based businesses are using generative AI.AI and the Language of Reality
I’m not sure how to classify this article by Deepak Chopra, but I thought it was worth bringing your attention to it.
Coolest thing I saw…
VentureBeat is reporting on Fable’s new “AI Showrunner” app. This app enables you to use text prompts to create, for now, South Park episodes with you as the star. The article goes on to predict that the arrival of this app marks the beginning of what they term “Generative TV.”
The app is only available if you sign up for the beta preview, which has not yet been released. I’m on the waiting list, so more to come.
