Is GenAI’s Impact on Productivity Overblown?
I don’t agree with all the points in this article, but I think it’s valuable to consider lots of different viewpoints. This Harvard Business Review article cautions readers to think clearly and deliberately about the longer-term effects of the rapid adoption of Generative AI in the workplace.

The authors develop a small but performant LLM by training it on much higher-quality data. They argue that data quality is a missing dimension in LLM development and that data quality contributes more to LLM performance than scaling compute or network parameters.

This article will interest only those who are using LLMs to support software development. For those with such experience (like me), this article describes how to use knowledge graphs to improve semantic comprehension and, thus, the quality of code generated by the LLM.

According to its editor, the goals of the journal are “informing readers and guiding the responsible development of artificial intelligence to enhance the quality of health care.”
ChatGPT is coming to Microsoft Office this week
Microsoft announced it is unlocking CoPilot (built on a version of ChatGPT) for Microsoft 365 users. It will be available via a chatbot in a side panel and will help users draft and edit content in each Microsoft Office app, including Teams.
MIT Technology Review’s 10 Breakthrough Technologies of 2024
MIT’s annual list is led this year by—surprise!—“AI for everything.”
IBM Publishes Global AI Adoption Index 2023
Here are the highlights from the press release:
42% of large companies (> 1,000 employees) report having actively deployed AI in their business.
An additional 40% are currently exploring or experimenting with AI but have not deployed their models.
59% of companies already exploring or deploying AI say they have accelerated their rollout or investments in the technology.
The top barriers preventing deployment include limited AI skills and expertise (33%), too much data complexity (25%), and ethical concerns (23%).
